Ollie Watkins drilled home a dramatic 91st-minute winner to fire England to the European Championship final!
The Aston Villa striker was introduced off the bench in the latter stages of Wednesday night’s Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands and made a stunning injury-time impact as he sealed a memorable 2-1 triumph.
Watkins received the ball from fellow substitute Cole Palmer before taking a touch, turning and sending a powerful low strike across goal and into the far bottom corner – sparking wild scenes of celebration among the Three Lions faithful in Dortmund.
The Villa forward was duly mobbed by his team-mates amid the jubilation as England went on to secure their place in Sunday’s showpiece – the first time the men’s national team have reached a major tournament final on foreign soil.
Gareth Southgate’s side will now face Spain in Berlin (ko 8pm) – their second successive European Championship final.
It was Watkins’ fourth goal on his 14th appearance for England, with the forward’s incredible impact earning him the Player of the Match award.
Villa team-mate Ezri Konsa also appeared off the bench in injury time to help secure victory for the Three Lions.
But there was disappointment for summer signing and fellow Villan Ian Maatsen, who was an unused substitute for the Netherlands at BVB Stadion Dortmund.
