Wayne Rooney admits he doesn't have much sympathy for 'privileged' Marcus Rashford and suggests how he can improve
Wayne Rooney hopes Marcus Rashford can “find some form and consistency” after a difficult season.
He manchester united and the England striker published an open letter via The Players' Tribune late last month, addressing those who doubt his commitment to the shirt.
He also put his hands up for making mistakes in the past amid a recent controversy that led to him flying to Belfast for a night out before leaving a training session the next day.
It has also been a tough campaign for the Red Devils youth product on the field, as he scored just six goals and provided six assists in 33 games, a much lower figure than last season.
But for his former teammate Rooney, Rashford needs to improve given the position he finds himself in, regardless of everything that is happening.
The Red Devils legend joined TNT Sport for Man United's clash against Everton.
Asked if he had any sympathy for Rashford, he said: “Not much. If I'm honest.
“He is in a privileged position because he plays for Manchester United. I've said it before, he is the only player I think can beat my scoring record.
“I hope he does because he is a Manchester lad, but he needs to get some consistency. He hasn't had the best of seasons.
“It needs to find some form and coherence.”

Fellow Man United legend and former teammate Fernando Riverwho was standing next to Rooney, added: “When Wayne wasn't fit, and there were times when we all had that, the only thing he turned to was work ethic.
“He would go around people and chase them, his performance would start to improve from that.”
Rooney continued: “I don't think Marcus is that type of player, I don't think he's a leader and sometimes his body language isn't the best.”
However, he believes his fellow Man United stars should do more to help him improve his game.

He said: “I look casemiro, Varane and Fernandes, as captain, should take that out of Marcus. It's up to your teammates to get more out of you.”
“Some players need it throughout their career,” Ferdinand agreed. “Nani needed to be trained every day. At half-time, Wayne was yelling at Nani to get the best of him.
“His thing could be just running behind. He is one of the most lethal players, he is very fast and his timing is good.
“He needs to shout at Bruno to give him the ball and be aggressive in that nature.
“He needs to look at someone with those steel eyes and say 'give me the ball.'”
Man United beat Everton 2-0 in the end, and Rashford stepped up to calmly finish off his second penalty of the afternoon, with Bruno Fernandes breaks a club record by scoring the first.
