Senior Manchester United and star of England Wayne Rooney it targeted a strange criticism Pep Guardiola.
Rooney is an expert for BBC Sport on Euro 2024 where Gareth Southgate's team have struggled to live up to expectations.
England finished top of Group C, but with just five points, and two goals scored in Germany.
His performances were dissected by Rooney with a talented team that did not click in the equipment.
Before facing Slovakia in the last 16, Rooney spoke about some of the deeper reasons why England are so disjointed, with Guardiola a possible reason.
“I think the game is much more positive, with teams trying to score a perfect goal,” he said.
“I think it's Pep's fault! He brought this. He mastered it, but everyone else seems to struggle to create clear chances.”
Rooney's comments appear to have more significance for England's trophy struggles as Spain have won three major trophies during Guardiola's time Barcelona from 2008 to 2012.
With Southgate set to step down as England manager after Euro 2024, regardless of his performance, Guardiola has been named as a successor with his Manchester City contract expiring in 2025.
