Coleen revealed during the week that Wayne shows his romantic side by writing poems for her, who received the adoration of her campmates.

He then spoke to the show's companion show I'm A Celebrity… Unpacked to review his efforts so far.

“She's a nice, warm, very loving person, and I think that shows,” he said via the sun.

“You know, I think she's probably somewhere between the oldest and the youngest, so she's probably closing that gap a little bit.

“But I think she's absolutely shown her personality, her character, and I think that looks strong. It's great to see her there and see us settling in the last few days as well.”

“We always said that if we were ever going to do one, that would be the one we would do,” he added. “And obviously Coleen has come out to test herself.”

Presenter Joel Dommett then questioned Rooney's use of 'we' in his response and asked if the England icon would ever sign up.

“Maybe, if I'm not working,” he admitted. “It's something I would like to do, but right now, obviously, that's not possible.”

Rooney also took to social media to praise his childhood sweetheart, writing on X: “Proud of @ColeenRoo on @imacelebrity she is doing great.

“The boys and I would love to see her taking a test and we know she would want to test herself. If you can download #ImACeleb and let's vote!”

After it was revealed that Coleen would face trial next, Rooney posted a follow-up message, joking: “I think I might be in trouble here. Good luck @ColeenRoo #ImACeleb.”

If Rooney ever headed to the jungle to join them, he would follow other former footballers such as Ian Wright, Jimmy Bullard and Dennis Wise.

However, the 39-year-old is currently concerned about his coaching career with the Championship side. Plymouth Argyle.

Rooney took charge of the Pilgrims in May after spells with Derby County, DC United and Birmingham City.

Plymouth currently sit 17th in the Championship after 16 matches, with just four wins to their name.

Rooney's side are just two points above the bottom three, meaning they could face a relegation battle later in the season.

However, while he has other commitments as of now, fans could see him take part in the Bushtucker trials in the future.
