Noelle Martiz believes that Aston Villa deserved more from their opening 24/25 Women’s Super League fixture as she reflects on the side’s narrow 1-0 defeat away to Chelsea.
The side dominated proceedings and took the game to the reigning champions but were left with nothing to show for their valiant efforts on Friday evening.
Maritz states that everyone fought for more from the game.
“I think we definitely deserved more,” she said.
“We’re all quite disappointed with the outcome, I think we at least deserved a point with the way that we played.
“Everyone fought and gave everything and we did have the chances to score towards the end.
“We all wanted more in the end.”
Despite the disappointment Maritz explains that the side can look back and be happy with their efforts and build on what they created.
The defender said: “We did a lot of work over pre-season and really wanted to play.
“We created chances and defensively we stood very, very well.
“So, it’s something that we can really towards and build on, especially looking forward to the next games.
“Tonight we can be disappointed and frustrated with the result but after that we can look forward and see that we played a good and decent game and can build on that.”
Five new Villans made their competitive club debut during the fixture and 28-year-old was particularly left impressed with Sabrina D’Angelo’s performance in goal.
“I’ve known Sabrina now for quite a while and played with her a few times, so I know her quality and how good she is,” Maritz explained.
She was solid in the back and as a defender you love to have a goalie behind you that makes those kind of saves and gives you that security that you need and obviously she goes and makes that header at the end.
“It was a great debut for her and for all the other girls that made their debut and I’m really happy for them.
“We can build towards something and look forward to the next game now.”
Villa are back in action next Sunday when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Villa Park for their home opener and Martiz shares what the side can work on to ensure they add points to board from the fixture.
She said: “There’s definitely a few tweaks we can make when we look back at the game and analyse it.
“I think on the ball we can be a bit more tidy.
“We just need to look forward and move towards the next game and take our chances then.”
