- Aston Villa Vs. FC Bayern München – Wed, Oct 2nd 2024, 20:00
Pau Torres hailed Aston Villa supporters for their “amazing” support in our historic 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich.
The claret and blue faithful inside Villa Park and all over the world enjoyed a night to truly remember, one which go down in Villa folklore.
Europe’s elite club competition returned to B6 for the first time since 1983 and Unai Emery’s Villans were backed by a vociferous home support.
From the eagerly-anticipated build-up to kick-off, the UEFA Champions League anthem, throughout an enthralling 90 minutes and amid the celebratory scenes at full-time – the atmosphere was spine-tingling.
And Torres was happy to reward Villa’s fans with a special success.
“It’s an amazing night,” he told VillaTV.
“Many, many years after to play Champions League again here at Villa Park.
“We’re happy because our supporters can enjoy this moment with us. These nights.
“For us, they are the principal objective for us, to see them happy and this is so important for us.”
The Spain international centre-back saw his first-half finish agonisingly ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
And it was substitute Jhon Durán’s stunning lob from distance in the 78th minute which sealed the memorable success.
Villa were superb all over the pitch, epitomised by the incredible Emi Martínez who pulled off several stunning saves to deny the likes of Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane.
And Torres was left to reflect on an occasion that will live long in the memory for everyone in claret and blue.
“The atmosphere was amazing,” he added.
“You felt on the pitch that the supporters were waiting a long, long time to enjoy nights like this.
“And we are so, so happy.”
