'We're not out of the Champions League' – Girona manager Michel Sanchez challenged after Sturm Graz defeat
Girona's first Champions League campaign has been tough, and their woes continued on Wednesday with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Austrian team Sturm Grazwho collected their first points in the league phase with that result.
Ace for MDGirona coach Michel Sanchez analyzed where things went wrong for his side. Despite the depressing situation, he also remains optimistic ahead of the remaining three games.
“The team had control of the ball, but lacked the goal. We had the control of the game we wanted, but we lacked aggression and as the game progressed, we lost strength in the final third to generate scoring options .
“We have to turn the page. We still analyze and we have to accept that we lost, but we are not out of the Champions League, so we have to keep fighting. We know the difficulty, but the challenge is here. I think the game of today was key and now I think the key is the next three.”
Gerona face Liverpool next, which will be another very difficult match for Michel's team.
