West Ham are considering signing Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United
West Ham United have been one of the most active teams Premier League sides like the transfer The window comes to an end after signing players such as Crysencio Summerville, Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme, Guido Rodríguez and Niclas Fullkrug.
Julen Lopetegui will be under enormous pressure to deliver the goods after spending lavishly in the transfer market and the Spaniard is not done yet as he is planning the signing of a right-back before the season starts.
According to the TelegraphKieran Trippier is the latest name on the club's radar as the Hammers step up their attempts to sign a right-back to provide competition for Vladimir Coufal.
Coufal made 36 Premier League appearances last season and as he is now in his 30s, Lopetegui is keen to add competition and ensure the right-back stays fit.
The Londoners have also been linked with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters. Although they have been unable to finalise deals with either player, the duo are “highly rated”, the report adds.
Trippier is in the final year of his contract at Newcastle United and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
It is valued only for £8.5m on Transfermarkt Given that he is 33 and in the final year of his contract, if they were to sign him, West Ham could negotiate a lower fee with Newcastle.
Trippier is not the solution to West Ham's right-back problem
One of the reasons Lopetegui wants a new right-back at West Ham is to ensure there is a long-term backup for Coufal in the team. Trippier is two years older than the Czech defender and defies much of the club's logic in wanting to sign a right-back.
Even if he were available on a budget, the England international would not be at the club for more than a year or two, forcing the Hammers to consider signing another full-back.
Wan-Bissaka and Walker-Peters are both in their early 20s and have the best years of their careers ahead of them, so they would be much better long-term signings, despite being slightly more expensive.
West Ham's first game of the 2024/25 Premier League season is against Aston Villa on August 17 and it will be interesting to see if a new full-back has arrived at the club by then.
