West Ham United are reportedly planning to make a bid to sign LOSC Lille star Jonathan David, according to the transfer exit All of Juve.
The 24-year-old has entered the final 10 months of his current contract, so speculation surrounding his future continues to emerge of late.
If he does not sign an extension with Les Dogues in the coming months, the Hammers can reach a pre-contract agreement with him to sign him as a free agent next summer.
The Italian outlet claims that Juventus are interested in the Canadian and have already held talks with him to reach an agreement to sign him as a free agent.
However, the report says that West Ham are also planning to sign him and are currently monitoring his situation before making a possible move next year.
New manager Julen Lopetegui will ask the Hammers hierarchy to remain active in the January transfer market in order to bring in new reinforcements after a disappointing start to this season.
David to West Ham
The east London club could ultimately opt to sign the 24-year-old in January by spending a transfer fee of around £25m to beat Juventus in this race.
Having previously beaten the Bianconeri in the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo this summer, West Ham are now planning to beat them once again in a transfer race.
Lopetegui decided to strengthen the centre-forward position by signing Niclas Fullkrug this summer, but he has not yet been able to play regularly for his new club and has now suffered an injury.
The Spanish coach has therefore used Michail Antonio in the number nine position. Danny Ings is also available, but has found it difficult to break into the starting eleven.
Therefore, signing a younger striker would be the right decision and David could be a smart choice if they buy him as the Lille star has already proven his goalscoring abilities in the French top flight over the past few years.
However, it will be interesting to see if West Ham eventually manage to secure the signing of David to bolster their attacking department.
