West Ham consider signing Marseille star Elye Wahi

western ham United are reportedly considering signing Olympique Marseille striker Elye Wahi, according to a French outlet. L'Equipe.

The 22-year-old burst onto the scene after showing impressive performances for Montpellier in the 2022/23 season, contributing 24 goals in 29 starts in Ligue 1.

Impressed by his performances, RC Lens decided to sign him, but he could not repeat the same performance at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis last season.

Marseille signed him last summer to reinforce the attack, but he has been playing as a rotational player with Roberto de Zerbi. Now, L'Equipe claims that after becoming frustrated by the lack of playing time at the Stade Velodrome, Wahi could be willing to leave the club.

West Ham are looking to sign him taking advantage of his situation and have been keeping a close eye on him before making a possible attack.

Wahi to West Ham

Marseille would be willing to let him leave on a loan deal with the obligation to make the move permanent or they would be willing to cash in on him outright in January for around £25m, which is the price they paid to sign him.

However, the Hammers are not the only club interested in him, with AFC Bournemouth also interested in the Frenchman.

The Hammers' attacking department has been decimated by injury problems. Michail Antonio has been the team's main forward, but will be sidelined for an extended period following a car accident.

Jarrod Bowen has been the talismanic figure for them, but has now broken his foot so will not be able to play for the next few weeks.

New summer signing Niclas Fullkrug has failed to perform at his best so far this season and another striker, Danny Ings, has entered the final months of his current contract.

Therefore, strengthening the centre-forward position would be the right decision for the east London club and Wahi could be a useful acquisition if he is signed. However, it will be interesting to see if Graham Potter's team finally take a concrete approach to completing the deal in January or next summer.
