West Ham United have submitted a proposal to sign the former Liverpool Star Joel Matip immediately, according to Caught offside.

The Hammers have been very active in the summer window that has just concluded after signing Julen Lopetegui as their new manager. They have signed nine new players to give the Spanish manager the tools necessary to help him implement his style of football and achieve success this season.

Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have joined the club to bolster the back line, while Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme have signed to bolster the attack.

Guido Rodriguez and Carlos Soler have also moved to the London Stadium to strengthen their midfield. However, it seems that the east London club are still looking for a new player to add more depth to their squad.

Caught offside claims that West Ham are interested in signing Matip and have already submitted a proposal to secure his signature immediately.

However, Lopetegui's side are not the only club in the race, with Leicester City, Fulham and AFC Bournemouth also showing interest in signing the Cameroonian and he now has to decide where he wants to play next.

After eight successful years at Liverpool, the 33-year-old left Anfield as a free agent at the beginning of July. He won the Premier League qualification, Champions League trophy, Club World Cup and multiple cup competitions during his time with the Reds.

However, his final season at the club was cut short by a serious knee injury, meaning he has been out for almost a year and will find it difficult to show his best immediately if he signs for West Ham in the coming days.

The 1.93m tall defender is an experienced player and is an elite defender, so he could be a smart acquisition for Lopetegui's side if they buy him.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Hammers eventually manage to lure him to the London Stadium to bolster their defensive department.

Meanwhile, West Ham have had a mixed start to this season, as after losing to Aston Villa In the opening match of the Premier League, they immediately bounced back and won against Crystal Palace.

But, just before the international stage, they were beaten by Manchester CityWest Ham will now be hoping to get back to winning ways when they face Fulham after the break.
