'What are you talking about?' – Simon Jordan points out Ange Postecoglou tactic ruining Tottenham's 'maturity' claim
Simon Jordan has criticized Ange Postecoglou for his focus on Tottenham.
He Spurs The boss stated that his team “lacks a certain maturity and leadership” after their defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
His team is now back in action, as he receives city of manchester in it Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The contest presents an opportunity to Postecoglou to end Spurs' 17-year wait for a trophy.
However, talkSPORT co-host Jordan questioned the Australian's comments before the match.
Speaking on White & Jordan, he explained: “Comparing Manchester City to Tottenham is a silly comparison because Manchester City are winning things and Tottenham aren't.
“When you talk about Manchester City's priorities, they have won the Premier League for the last four years, they have won the Champions League for the last two seasons, they have won the League Cup God knows how many times. They have won the Cup FA; Tottenham haven't won anything in 17 years.
“So when we talk about comparisons about what Pep Guardiola would do, he faces a different set of challenges than Tottenham. Now if you look at what Ange has said, I don't know what he's talking about.
“I really like it, I really want it to succeed. When you talk about not putting enough effort into a game and hating the fact that people are going to continue, what are you talking about, Ange?
“Last year you beat a weakened team against Fulham in the League Cup and lost.
“You put Son on the bench, you put Maddison on the bench, you put Kulusevski on the bench, you play in the second team for reasons that are yours and you have every right to do so.
“It's not about people accusing you of a lack of effort, it's about them suggesting that you're applying a different protocol to that particular game.
“You could have gone to Fulham, won that League Cup game and progressed in the League Cup, however insignificant that may seem to you.”
Spurs were beaten on penalties in the second round by Fulham last season after a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.
Jordan continued: “So when Ange adopts this brusque style, which in some parts I like, because he wants to separate himself, I like the fact that he strongly opposed the idea that Tottenham fans wanted Tottenham to lose against Manchester City or beat Manchester City or whatever so that Arsenal couldn't win the league.
“They were more inclined to worry about what Arsenal were doing than what Spurs were doing.
“I like him and he was right to say it, he's a professional football manager, he doesn't give a damn what Arsenal are doing, he wants to win the games ahead of him.
“But when he makes this particular remark, like he's hitting his back with a stick, he says things like 'I don't worry about set pieces, I have more things to worry about than that.'
“So every time a set piece comes and they can see the goal, the media will focus on the fact that he said that and hit him with that stick.
“Now he's going to talk about not putting in enough effort in games. And then you look at the line-up against Fulham last year and he dropped his big hitters for that game.
“That's not a lack of effort on the part of the guys that go in there, but Oliver Skipp and players of that nature don't occupy the same precedent as James Madison, right? Or Kulusevski or Son.
“So it's not about effort, it's about priorities. So I don't know what Ang is trying to deflect, do you want to win the League Cup?
“You're the one who said, I'm not going to win something, he's the one who said I usually win something in my second season, which we then interpreted as… I always win something in my second season.
“So they could win the Europa League and one of the cups. So here's one of the cups.”
