Why are team news being announced earlier this season? Premier League changes rules for 2024/25 campaign
Premier League clubs will now be able to unveil their teams 15 minutes earlier in 2024/25 than in previous years.
The rules previously stipulated that each of the 20 teams had to announce their selections to the public exactly 60 minutes before the start of first-division matches.
However, that rule has now changed and clubs must now name their teams 75 minutes before the match kicks off.
This means that for any club playing at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, the team sheets will be released to the public at 1pm.
Why are team news announced earlier?
The decision has been taken to bring the Premier League into line with UEFA competitions, which also respect the 75-minute rule.

While some clubs, especially real MadridSometimes teams choose to release team news up to two hours in advance, but that is not expected to become the norm.
This is because managers generally want their team selection to be in the public domain for as little time as possible, due to the possibility of opponents adapting their plans and gaining a competitive advantage.

A representative of each participating Club must submit a team sheet using the method approved by the Board of Directors containing the following data:
“The shirt numbers and names of your players (including substitute players) who will take part in that league match, the colour of the shirt your players, including the goalkeeper, will wear and the names and titles of up to seven officials who will occupy the coach's bench during that league match.”
That confirmed the rule change when the new manual was published before this campaign.
This rule change came into effect during the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.
Some fans were confused by the early announcements, but they will get used to things as more matches take place.
It will be a perfect complement for those fans who are impatient waiting for news.
However, it could benefit an opposing team before a match due to the extended period to evaluate lineups before kickoff.
