Burn have gone from strength to strength since sealing a £13million move from Brighton back to his boyhood club in the January 2022 transfer window.

The 32-year-old player quickly established himself like a rock at the back to Eddie Howe's Newcastle and has already played more than 100 games for the club.

However, every time Burn appears on television screens, the same question continues to arise among fans watching at home.

He's approaching 500 games in his professional career, but surprisingly, the story of his finger actually has nothing to do with football.

The centre-back is reportedly missing the ring finger on his right hand following an accident he suffered as a teenager.

When he was just 13, Burn was wearing a ring while climbing a fence when he got caught on a spike, according to The free library.

The gruesome incident resulted in his finger being ripped off, which must have been a horrible moment for the young man.

But Burn has more than overcome adversity to succeed as a professional and eventually become a fan favorite at St James' Park.

He's also not afraid to make light of his missing finger, having laughed with his teammates about it this summer.

While Newcastle traveled to Germany ahead of the current Premier League season, they visited the Adidas headquarters.

While there, Burn, Harvey Barnes and Sean Longstaff tried on goalkeeper gloves which were, of course, intended for five fingers.

While putting them on, the three of them started laughing And Burn moved the finger of his spare glove in the air.

The defender feels more than comfortable with his hands and that does not seem to affect his performances.

In fact, he has been playing so well for Newcastle that he was awarded a contract extension in October.

After originally signing a new contract last year, the club gave him an option to retain him until 2026.

So we still have a couple more years left in which Burn was seen with only three fingers on his right hand!
