Last summer, Bayern Munich signed Kim Min-jae from Napoli for €50 million. However, it has not been a perfect first season for the South Korean in Bavaria.
The 27-year-old was initially signed by Der Rekordmeister to partner Dayot Upamecano in Thomas Tuchel’s backline. Nevertheless, despite becoming Bayern’s key defensive asset during the first half of the season, since returning from the Asian Cup, Kim has struggled to reassert himself back into the starting XI.
Now, Tuchel’s most trusted centre-back pairing consists of Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt and the former Tottenham Hotspur defender, Eric Dier, who both started in Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final victory over Arsenal. This has, therefore, left the South Korean filling in as the third-choice centre-back.
Regardless, as reported by Florian Plettenberg, Kim is not yet considering a move in the summer. While he is currently not satisfied with the current situation, Kim wants to prove why he was bought in during the summer and fight his way back into the side.
As well as this, the 27-year-old is happy in Munich and has settled in well since arriving from Italy. With his contract valid until 2028, Bayern would be able to negotiate a significant fee for his services, but he is certainly still an important asset to the record champions.
