Wolves are in talks with Lens over a move for Kevin Danso, talkSPORT understands.
The Austrian defender is emerging as a transfer target for new Wolves manager Vito Pereira.
Pereira has made signing a new centre-back his top priority since taking over at Molineux.
Danso could be available on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy if Wolves avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The defender began his career in England with Reading and MK Dons at academy level where he played as a striker.
He arrived at Augsburg in 2014 and played 44 games for the club, in addition to spending a season on loan at Southampton in 2019/20.
Reflecting on disappointing loan streak in a 2022 interview with The AthleticDanso said: “The biggest problem was not playing enough games as a centre-back because I couldn't show what I could do.”
He added: “I wanted it to work, but when you play out of position you might need extra concentration that I didn't have.”
“I should have concentrated more and read the game more.
“I tried to do that, and when it started well, I kind of took a backseat and got complacent. I needed to invest a little more to make sure it went in the direction I wanted.”
now with LensThe 26-year-old has made 126 appearances for the French team.
Danso had previously been recommended to Manchester United with Rio Fernando saying: “The guy from Lens, there's one there, he's good.”
Wolves are desperate for quality reinforcements as they prepare to fight to avoid relegation in 2025.
Pereira's team is currently 17th in the table with only four wins so far.
However, they have shown improvements under Pereira.
In the last week they won twice and tied to get away from real danger.
Leicester City and Manchester United were beaten before a Jorgen Strand Larsen goal gave them a vital point against Tottenham.
Next up is a tough home clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday 6 January.
