Nottingham Forest are set to overtake Wolves in the battle to sign Scottish striker Che Adams, talkSPORT understands.
Adams move to molineux is stalling due to a dispute over agent fees, which allowed Forest to enter.
Adams is available on a free transfer after his Southampton contract expired.
Wolves manager Gary O'Neil stated earlier this season that the Wolves don't have much money at their disposal this summer, and Adams is seen as an attractive option because he won't cost them anything starting July 1. .
O'Neil said last month: “I don't think there will be any money available to us if no one leaves.”
O'Neil added: “I wouldn't expect it to be a summer where we spent millions of the club's own money on players.
“I think it won't be the same as last year, where we will have to sell a lot and make a big profit, but I wouldn't expect it to be an excessive expense.”
But it looks like Forest is going to pinch Adams, who helped Southampton return to the Premier Leagueout of Wolves' reach and money is expected to be tight at the City Ground this summer.
Forest were docked four points in March after an independent commission ruled the club had breached the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
They failed in their appeal to have the deduction overturned but managed to remain in the top flight anyway as they finished 17th in the table, six points ahead of 18th-placed Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United were also relegated.
Meanwhile, Wolves were 14th in the Premier League with 46 points, accumulating 14 more points than Forest.
This is another big setback for the Wolves, who earlier on Thursday had their Offer to remove VAR rejected by his fellow Premier League clubs.
Adams leaves the Saints after five years at the club, having joined them in 2019 from Birmingham.
The 27-year-old, who has earned 30 caps for Scotland, has also represented Sheffield United as well as non-league sides Ilkeston and Oadby Town.
