Worrying scenes as Danny Welbeck is stretchered off the pitch to ease pain and taken to hospital as Brighton boss gives update
Danny Welbeck was stretchered off the Brighton pitch and taken straight to hospital after suffering a serious injury against Newcastle.
the forward He scored the only goal of the clash at St. James' Park with a low shot to give the Seagulls a 1-0 victory.
However, he suffered an apparent back problem late in the game after a match with Newcastle Fabian Schar.
Welbeck was in visible pain as he lay on the grass and was quickly attended to by medical staff.
The 33-year-old was then given what appeared to be the painkiller Penthrox, also known as green whistle.

The paramedics took him off the field on a stretcher and both fans applauded the forward as he left the field.
talkSPORT understands he was taken to hospital immediately, with Brighton Boss Fabian Hurzeler confirms he is undergoing a scan.
When asked how Welbeck is doing, he replied: “I don't know yet, we have to wait for the scans and then we can give an update.
“At the moment I can't say anything.”
However, Brighton confirmed he was on his flight home, saying: “That guy's a bit bruised and banged up but the good news is our St James' Park match winner @DannyWelbeck is on our flight from @British_Airways home.”
Welbeck's injury will mar Brighton's fourth Premier League win of the season which has lifted them to fifth place in the table.
The former Manchester United and Arsenal player's victory at Newcastle was his 100th goal in the top flight.
He has now reached 71 goals and 29 assists in 340 Premier League appearances, and has done so for five different clubs: Manchester United, Sunderland on loan, Arsenal, Watford and now Brighton.
Welbeck's final goal was also his fourth of the season so far, moving him into fourth place in the standings alongside Liverpool's Luis Diaz and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.
The striker scored against Everton, United. Nottingham Forest and now Newcastle to extend their total goal tally at Brighton to 30.
It remains to be seen when he will return to action for the club following his injury.
Brighton will host Wolves before back-to-back games against Liverpool, first in the Carabao Cup and then in the Premier League.
They will then travel to reigning champions Manchester City in their final game before the November international break.
