Xavi Hernandez told Barcelona president Joan Laporta that he could win the Champions League with the current team

When Barcelona president Joan Laporta broke down in tears as he explained the decision to continue with Xavi as manager at the beginning of May, it seemed that was the case. Yet just weeks later, all the reports coming out of the Catalan capital are that Xavi Hernandez will leave the club.

One of the alleged reasons was Laporta's anger at Xavi's statements in a press conference. For many, Xavi had only stated a reality when he said it would be difficult for his team to compete against Real Madrid and the European giants in the Champions League given their financial constraints.

So it seemed misplaced when The door considered bag Xavi as a result of these statements, and a damaging defeat against Girona. One of the reasons, as for Bar Canaletesis that Xavi had told Laporta during their confrontation talks that he felt he could win the Champions League with the current team, and one or two tweaks.

This, clearly, is quite different from what he expressed in the press conference, but equally perhaps it suggests that Laporta and the board were never completely convinced of Xavi remaining at the club. It is worth remembering that Xavi was on the verge of the sack before he announced his decision to resign, and despite a revolution of results, they did not find a clear direction.
