In an interview with US, Manchester United Striker Joshua Zirkzee has revealed he was immediately convinced to join the club from Bologna this summer.
The 23-year-old had a fine season with Bologna last term, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 37 games. Zirkzee has now revealed that talks with United began during Euro 2024 and it was an easy decision to join them.
The Dutch ace added that he had good conversations with the coach. Erik the Hag And the 54-year-old wanted him at Old Trafford, he said: “To be honest, I was convinced immediately after the talks. The process started in Germany. In the end, it was an easy choice.
“Why? After all, it’s Manchester United. The conversations I’ve had… If a club is so convincing and wants you, it’s not difficult. I also had good conversations with Erik. He wanted me there and I wanted to play for him. That’s a good combination.”
Good potential
Zirkzee had a good start in his Premier League In his career, he scored on his debut against Fulham. However, he has struggled in the next two league games and was guilty of missing two clear-cut chances in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. Liverpool.
The Dutch international is far from an accomplished player, but he has the potential to become one. Zirkzee has impressed with his movement and dribbling in the final third of the pitch. If he can improve his finishing, he could become an elite goalscorer.
He started the recent derby against the Reds with Rasmus Hojlund The Dane is currently sidelined with a thigh injury. Competition could be fierce after the international break as he is expected to return to first-team action.
United resume league action at Southampton next week and it remains to be seen whether Zirkzee will be chosen in attack. There is a possibility that Ten Hag could again replace Bruno Fernandes in the false nine role.
Fernandes started in that position in the opening two league games before Mason Mount returned to his usual No 10 role due to injury. Zirkzee, meanwhile, will be eager to turn things around after a patchy start to his United career.
The Dutchman still has to adapt to the increased intensity of the Premier League and may need another month or more to find his feet. We wouldn't be surprised if Ten Hag prefers to start him on a rotating basis in the near future.
