Jeffrey Schlupp's screamer gives Crystal Palace a final point at Fulham | first division

Oliver Glasner praised Jeffrey Schlupp's “amazing” late equalizer that earned him crystal Palace a point from a 1-1 Premier League draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Schlupp came off the bench to score the goal of the season that canceled out Rodrigo Muñiz's ninth league goal of the season. The former Ghana international received the ball from Adam Wharton before firing a powerful shot into the top left corner in the 87th minute, as Palace claimed a point to go on Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Newcastle at Selhurst Park.

Glasner said: “The ending is amazing. All the substitutes brought great energy at the end of a very tough week and we had an incredible goal from Jeffrey, so I'm pleased with the performance.

“We started from the right with Adam Wharton, who passed to Jeffrey and with his second touch he had a great finish. “I was a little angry because yesterday we had a finishing drill with old players against young players and the old players lost, so I think that's why I wanted to score.”

Palace continued the momentum from that midweek win over Newcastle through Michael Olise, who was given the chance to reward their early efforts. Wharton slipped the difficult winger in one-on-one, but failed to hit the target when his shot with his right foot went wide.

Palace were without the injured Eberechi Eze but Olise did not look out of place without his strike partner as he almost helped the breakthrough. Olise used his trusty left foot to curl a free kick wide onto the head of Chris Richards, but the American defender jumped too early and his close-range header went over the bar as Fulham avoided another early scare.

The home team had not been in the races and Marco Silva's lively reactions on the touchline best described their poor first half. But they finally started to move and put together a dangerous play on the stroke of half-time.

João Palhinha lifted the ball over the Palace defense into the path of emerging Muniz, who kept his markers at bay before Dean Henderson saved the striker's shot from inside the six-yard box.

Fulham's positive finish to the first half continued early in the second, where they soon got the first goal. Timothy Castagne's run caught the sleeping Tyrick Mitchell behind the right channel before his well-weighted cross was headed in by an unmarked Muniz at the far post.

Glasner headed to the bench and replaced Jean-Philippe Mateta with Odsonne Édouard, who almost equalized with the first touch. The goalkeeper made a good turn on the edge of the area but was let down by his side-footed shot falling kindly to Bernd Leno.

Palace deserved a goal and got it thanks to a magical moment from Schlupp. The former Ghana international received a pass from Wharton before his first touch sparked a thunderous shot that rocketed into the top left corner to level the score at 1-1.

Silva regretted his team's performance in the first half, saying it was not good enough and that the draw was a fair result. The Fulham manager said: “We are not happy with the result, but in my opinion it was a fair result.

“Overall our first half was not at the level we normally play at home and this afternoon it is clear that we saw two completely different halves.

“We were not calm enough to build attacks and without the ball we were not aggressive.”
