After months of indecision and speculation, Thomas Tuchel has finally emerged as favourite to retain his Head Coach position at Bayern Munich, according to Bild journalist, Tobi Altshäffl.
In a remarkable U-turn, where Bayern Munich management had explored no fewer than five other options, including Roberto De Zerbi and Xabi Alonso, they have begun formal negotiations with Tuchel to retain his services.
It was reported that key players, including Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller were advocating for Tuchel to stay. The Board have listened and are now discussing a contract extension.
However, Tuchel wants a contract extension beyond 2025 to avoid a repeat of the past weeks and avoid being an interim solution.
Tuchel took charge at the end of last season and helped Bayern to a dramatic final day victory away to Koln to retain the Bundesliga.
This season, Bayern Munich were knocked out in the Champions League semi-finals and have been outshone by an unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
To avoid another trophyless season, Tuchel wants more control over transfer policy. Otherwise, a return to the Premier League remains an attractive proposition for him.
Bayern Munich hierarchy will have to commit to a long-term future if Tuchel is to stay.
