Rival suitors believe the Gunners would be in pole position to sign the Slovenian star if they proceed with a formal approach. Sesko's release clause previously stood at £43m but he could cost more than £60m this summer and the clause figure will rise with his goal contributions this year.

Mikel Arteta has seen Kai Havertz become a quality number 9 during the second half of the season and this could influence the striker's plans. Instead of signing an experienced star, the onus could fall on landing an emerging ace like Sesko, who could develop into a world-class player in the long term.
