Chelsea show great interest in Jonathan David

Chelsea are showing great interest in signing Canadian international forward Jonathan David, according to a report from telefoot.

The 24-year-old forward has been a key player for LOSC Lille and his performances have caught the attention of the first division giants.

Telefoot claim Chelsea are closely monitoring David's situation ahead of a possible raid, but they will face competition as AC Milan, Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the striker.

It's no secret that Chelsea will need to sign a quality striker to lead the line next season and the Canadian could prove to be an exciting addition. He has 11 goals and six assists to his name in all competitions this season. He could prove to be an improvement on Nicolas Jackson, who has failed to live up to expectations since he joined the Blues from Villarreal last summer.

David is still quite young and is likely to improve further with training and experience. He could become a top Premier League striker with the right guidance.

The opportunity to move to Chelsea would be a tempting proposition for him and working with a top manager like Mauricio Pochettino will only help him improve further.

The striker is valued at around 42 million pounds according to Transfermarkt so it shouldn't be ruined if Chelsea decide to formalize their interest this month or in the summer.

Will David want the Champions League?

Chelsea certainly have more financial resources compared to the other three clubs vying for his signature, but they may need to secure Champions League qualification to attract an elite talent like David.

The 24-year-old striker will want to compete at the highest level and win major trophies in the coming seasons, so joining a club without the Champions League may not appeal to him.

That said, Chelsea are one of the richest clubs in Europe and have the financial resources to turn things around and aim for big honors soon.
