Former League One boss Dino Maamria shows how his team defended throw-ins better than Manchester United
Manchester United may want to listen to former League One boss Dino Maamria's advice on how to effectively defend throw-ins.
Erik ten Hag's side were deservedly defeated 4-0 by Crystal Palace on Monday night, and the first goal in particular was too easy to concede.
Daniel Muñoz sent a simple throw-in to the feet of Michael Olisewho surpassed Casemiro and ran free to shoot into the bottom corner.
It marked the start of a disastrous night for United's defense and left Dino Maamria “astonished” at the lack of organization he saw.
Maamria recently managed League One side Burton Albion and took to Instagram to show how throw-ins should be defended.
He included a clip of Sky Sports analysis of Olise's goal, highlighting how the Palace man was able to simply drift into the space in front.
Maamria then included a clip of his Burton team at the Derby and showed what “has been explained to my players in the video/meeting room and on the pitch…”
You could quickly see their players putting pressure on their opponents once they took the shot and forcing them to make a mistake to recover the ball.
Something similar is seen in a second clip at Reading: Burton made sure there was little or no passing option from the throw-in and his press saw the opponent giving the ball away.
Both videos contrasted starkly with the clip about United's defence, with Ten Hag's team leaving too much free space for Olise.

Maamria showed how effective his team was in limiting the opposition in such a scenario, as he quickly regained possession on both occasions.
United could therefore get to work defending throw-ins on the training ground after their season took another dismal turn.
Olise scored his second goal of the game after goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell to complete Palace's rout.
It was United's 13th league defeat of the season and one that casts doubt on their chances of qualifying for Europe as they sit in eighth place.
They are also on the way to worst result in the Premier League ever, with 81 goals conceded in all competitions, the most since the 1976/77 campaign.
United next welcome to Arsenal, who are looking for the title to Old Trafford on Sunday, where another defeat could end their hopes in continental football.
