Wayne Rooney admitted he has “no idea what I'm doing” when it comes to social media, as the Manchester United legend reacted to some of his most iconic Twitter posts.

From a short but sweet message about Mr Bean to declaring his love for Whitney Houston, Rooney's posts are loved by fans, with his mastery of social media comparable to that of a tech-challenged grandpa who still has dial-up access to Internet.

One of Rooney's most iconic tweets features his former friend. Fernando Riverwhere the former striker asked his great Old Trafford teammates if he needed a ride to train.

Apparently I didn't understand what a DM is.

That's “direct message”, for all the grandparents.

When asked about his infamously non-private message to the defender, Rooney responded with a shrug: “I don't know!

“I remember making it and sending it, but I had no idea if it was just for you or if everyone could see it. She didn't know what was happening.

“I think you were the first on Twitter in the dressing room and I remember you kept talking about it so I thought I'd give it a try but I had no idea what I was doing!

“I also sent some crazy ones in my time,” Roo added. And he is not wrong.

“I just tweeted 'Mr Bean'. Fun'. I tweeted about Whitney Houston when she passed away. I said 'I want to run to you', which is just one of her songs, it's emotional. “I loved Whitney Houston and was devastated when she died.”

But there's a lot more where that came from when it comes to Rooney and strange social media posts.
