Luis de la Fuente on the Spanish contribution of the Barcelona star – “I see him with more confidence and security”
It was a successful evening's work for Spain on Wednesday, as they ran out 5-0 winners against Andorra in their opening warm-up match of Euro 2024. A host of players impressed in Badajoz, including Pedri, who played 62 minutes as he continues to build his return to full fitness.
La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente spoke highly of Pedri when addressing the media post-match, as per Brand.
“He will return to the level he was before. I have no doubt. I see him with more confidence and security. He is a safe bet, and he has great talent. You can always expect the best from him, he is very good. I am very happy of the game he played.”
De la Fuente also spoke about the difficult decision he made to cut three players from his squad of 29, especially after the exploits of Ayoze Perez, Mikel Oyarzabal, Fermin Lopez and others against Andorra.
“I'm sure it will be more difficult to decide the scraps. Those who arrived and I met are already part of the group. I have arguments to continue counting on everyone. Out of respect for all the players I can not give more suggestions .We know when we have to make the decision.
“Maybe a more versatile player or another type of player remains. We try to think about all the situations that can happen during a competition. The decision will be very well thought out.”
It will be very interesting to see who de la Fuente decides to cut from his Spain team Several players took the opportunity to impress against Andorra, meaning the 62-year-old will have his work cut out for him in selecting the final squad of 26, which will be revealed later this week.
