But given he hasn't played for Eddie Howe's side since October 2022, the writing is on the wall for the former Bournemouth star.

Looking to reignite his career, Fraser joined Championship side Southampton on loan, where he scored eight goals to help the Saints gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Having played a key role in their eventual play-off success against Leeds, Fraser's 173 top-flight appearances would no doubt be a huge boost for Saints next season.

When asked by the Daily Echo if he will be a Southampton player next season, Fraser laughed: “I'll do my best.”

Speaking about promotion and eventual play-off success with the Saints this season, Fraser said: “It's probably the best feeling I've had in my career.

“Obviously, I've had other promotions, but this one doesn't come close. It's by far the best feeling I've ever had.”

“I've said it for a long time, but it's just the family, the spirits, the fans, the coach, the guys – I could go on and, yeah, there's no better feeling.

“A lot was on the line in this game and the lads were brilliant, they just defended for our lives and showed a different side to us.”

He continued, “I think we just pushed each other to get through it. And as guys we are, we're very close.”

“The coach said it in the locker room, just what the boys have probably had as a team in recent seasons to what we are now.

“We have no bad eggs. We are all the best, the best people. The best players too, but before that, the best people.”
