Speaking to Sky Germany, VfB Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle spoke on the futures of striking duo Sehrou Guirassy and Deniz Undav.
Guirassy has consistently been linked with a move away from Stuttgart this season as he has hit the form of his life. Clubs from across Europe have shown interest in the 28-year-old who is second in the goalscoring charts in the Bundesliga with 25. Guirassy is said to have a release clause in his Stuttgart contract that is valued at €20m.
When asked about the future of Guirassy, Wehrle said: “It was already clear last summer that he was leaving, and I already heard in the winter where he is said to have already signed. The fact is: He feels really comfortable, he is an undisputed leader for the first time in his career, he knows what he has in Sebastian Hoeneß and the coaching team. He can now also play the Champions League. That’s another argument. For many it is clear that he is leaving, for me it is not at all clear. But we will sit down after the season.”
For Deniz Undav, the situation is slightly different, the striker is currently on loan from Brighton and could cost in the region of €20m to keep the 27-year-old at the club. Similarly to Guirassy, he has found his best form at the MHP Arena with 18 goals and nine assists this season, making him the highest-scoring German in the Bundesliga. On the prospect of playing with Guirassy and Undav, Wehrle said: “We would be happy to play with both next season.”
Last week, Stuttgart secured Champions League qualification for the first time in 14 years after Borussia Dortmund secured Germany’s fifth place in Europe’s premier competition with their 1-0 win against PSG. Then to cap off the week, Stuttgart beat Bayern Munich 3-1.
