The Manchester City legend guided Burnley back to the Premier League, however, the Clarets were sent back to relegation and finished 19th in the table with just 24 points.

Bayern have endured a torrid season, failing to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years.

And despite signing England captain Harry Kane in a high-profile move last summer, Bayern finished the campaign without a trophy, something that has not happened since the 2011/12 season.

The German giants' search for a new manager has been something of a wild goose chase, having suffered many setbacks.

They were interested in signing Xabi Alonso, who led Bayer Leverkusen's incredible campaign to win the Bundesliga title, in which for the first time the German champions were also unbeaten throughout the season, but the Spaniard decided to stay.

Bayern have also shown interest in Oliver Glasner, who has made a huge impact since taking the job at Crystal Palace in February.

But as with their pursuit of Alonso, this move is not expected to materialize as Glasner and Palace are not looking to part ways.

It has since been reported that Bayern have been trying to get Tuchel to return to the club despite announcing earlier in the season that he would be leaving.

The former Chelsea boss is understood to be interested in returning to the Premier League after 14 months in charge in Bavaria.
