Real Madrid have won a record-extending 36th La Liga title after Barcelona were beaten by Girona on Saturday.

Madrid beat Cadiz 3-0 earlier on Saturday, with goals from Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham — two minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute — and Joselu enough to seal their 27th league win of the campaign.

Barcelona — second in the table going into this weekend — had the chance to delay Real Madrid’s title party, but their 4-2 loss at Girona confirmed Carlo Ancelotti’s side as champions with four games to spare.

Ancelotti’s side have lost just one league match all season — a 3-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid in September — and are currently on an unbeaten 28-game run of league matches.

Real Madrid have already won the Spanish Supercopa this season — defeating Barcelona 4-1 in January’s final — and are currently 2-2 in their Champions League semi-final tie against Bayern Munich after last week’s first leg in Germany.

Ancelotti’s side were defeated 4-2 by Atletico Madrid in the last-16 of the Copa del Rey.

This is Real Madrid’s second league title since Ancelotti’s return to the club in 2021; the Italian head coach has previously won the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1 titles with Chelsea, Milan and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Real Madrid finished second in La Liga last season, 10 points behind league winners Barcelona, but did win the Copa del Rey trophy.

This title is Real Madrid’s 36th La Liga crown, taking them nine clear of Barcelona (27) and 25 clear of city rivals Atletico Madrid (11).
