'Very disappointing' – Mauricio Pochettino criticizes 'unacceptable' penalty drama by Chelsea players and makes a promise

Mauricio Pochettino described Chelsea's series of penalties as “unacceptable”.

The Blues claimed a convincing 6-0 victory over Everton in a match that will go down as their biggest win of the campaign so far.

However, that scoreline has been overshadowed by a fight in the build-up to Cole Palmer's penalty in the second half.

Already 4-0 up at the time, Palmer had the ball in his possession as he looked to score his fourth goal of the game, before Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson attempted to snatch it away.

Jackson in particular looked furious. for failing to take the shot and captain Conor Gallagher was forced to intervene when Palmer pushed the striker.

Fortunately for Palmer, the 21-year-old was able to return home easily to avoid any additional drama to the situation.

Although he was very happy with the result, Pochettino was frustrated after the match and said it was due to his disappointment over the penalty incident.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Pochettino said: “I am very upset, very disappointed.

“We were talking in the locker room after the game.

“It is very disappointing, I cannot accept this type of behavior because we know that the penalty taker is Palmer, the players know it and we cannot accept this type of thing.

“I told them it was the last time I wanted to see this kind of behavior on the field because after that kind of performance we can't show a different way of thinking in the team.

“The penalty taker is Palmer. It's Palmer who has to decide. If he wants to give the penalty to someone else, it's up to him.

“I think it's important to correct the image we gave and I think they realize that now. I can promise it won't happen again.”

Palmer was asked about the incident on Sky Sports and said: “Other players wanted to accept it, which is understandable.

“The game was 4-0, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it and so I did.

“I think we're just showing that everyone wants to take responsibility. Maybe the discussion was a little exaggerated, but everyone wants to win and help.

“It's nothing important, we laugh and joke, but the coach already talked to us about it.”
