Ezri Konsa rounded off a tremendous week for himself by scoring in Aston Villa’s win against Wolves.

The 26-year-old became the latest Villa player to represent England when he won his first two caps during the international break.

And on his return to domestic action, the defender helped keep a clean sheet, scored a goal and beat a local rival.

“It’s been a perfect week, making my debut for England and then topping it off with three points and a goal today,” he said.

“We played late today and we saw the results from earlier, so we knew that we had to win.

“That was our main focus: getting the three points. We had to focus on doing our job and we stuck together and got the wn.”

The goal was Konsa’s first since he bagged a brace in a 2-1 win against Leicester City in December 2021.

It was a welcome achievement but one he can’t dwell on for long, with a game against reigning champions Manchester City to come on Wednesday.

On his goal, he joked: “Whether I meant it or not, I’ll take it.

“My first goal in three years and I didn’t know how to celebrate.”

Konsa added: “We know our last performance at home wasn’t good enough and we wanted to give the fans something.

“Games are coming thick and fast, so it’s important we rest up and go again.”
